International Auto Insurance

Getting international auto insurance can be a bit tricky at times.  The key to getting the best international auto insurance coverage is knowledge.

In today’s global market, it is very common for business people to travel and work internationally. International business travel can range from a few days to a few years depending on the situation. The longer stays sometimes require extensive living arrangements, and along with that, the purchase of international auto insurance. Even short visits may require new or additional insurance coverage. When your current insurance company either won’t cover you while abroad, won’t offer international auto insurance or will only offer you limited insurance, it’s important to obtain proper insurance coverage, such as international auto insurance.

Whether you’re renting a car, purchasing a vehicle or shipping your own car to your destination country, you’ll need to have sufficient auto insurance coverage based on the local driving laws and insurance regulations.

What you need to know about International Auto Insurance:

1) You can easily purchase quality international auto insurance even though coverage requirements and laws differ from country to country.

2) You can buy additional auto insurance within your destination country. Although international auto insurance  typically provides enough coverage abroad, some countries require that you purchase specific insurance within the country itself.

3) Rental car companies usually require that you buy insurance through their agencies, but that coverage may not be enough or cover what you’d expect it to (comparable to your current auto insurance). Obtain extra coverage when renting internationally.

4) When traveling as a passenger in a vehicle get additional international auto insurance. In some countries a ride in a taxi can cost you much more than just the cab fare plus tip.  Many countries do not require cab companies (or anyone else) to cover you as a passenger in the event of an accident. If you are in an accident and you are injured, drivers don’t have to pay for your medical costs, so in these cases you need additional auto insurance when traveling as a passenger.
